Basic Bazi Analysis
Now that you possess the basic knowledge required to analyze a Bazi chart, you should be able to print out your chart and perform a basic analysis. The best way to read your Bazi chart as a beginner is to do the following:
1. Get a print out of your Bazi chart by using the online calculator at www.joeyyap.com. You will need to register--it's free!
2. Once you have the printout of your Bazi chart, you can begin by identifying your Day Master. Based on your Day Master, you will be able to analyze basic personality types.
3. The next thing you have to do after identifying your Day Master, you need to determine whether your Day Master is strong or weak. To do this, you must first find out if your Day Master is born in season by looking at the Month pillar. If your Day Master is born in season, it is considered strong. If, however, your Day Master is born out of season, it is considered weak. Refer to Season of Birth table below:
Seasons of Birth
| Dead | Trap | Weak | Strong | Prosperous | Seasons |
| Earth | Metal | Water | Fire | Wood | Spring |
| Metal | Water | Wood | Earth | Fire | Summer |
| Wood | Fire | Earth | Water | Metal | Autumn |
| Fire | Earth | Metal | Wood | Water | Winter |

| Hour | Day | Month | Year |
Yang Fire |
Yin Fire |
Yin Wood |
Yang Metal |
|
Horse Yang Fire |
Snake Yin Fire |
Rooster Yin Metal |
Rat Yang Water |
For
example, the chart above belongs to a Yin Fire person born in Rooster (Yin
Metal) Month or Autumn. If you look at the Seasons of Birth table above,
the Day Master in this chart is considered Trapped.
4. The next step is to determine your Day Master's Favorable and Unfavorable elements. You can use this information to strengthen or supplement your chart with the right elements.
|
Strong Day Master |
|
| Favorable | Unfavorable |
| * Controlling another element * Being controlled by another element * Producing another element |
* The same element * Elements that produces the Day Master |
|
Weak Day Master |
|
| Favorable | Unfavorable |
| * The same element * Element that produces the Day Master |
* Controlling another element * Being controlled by another element * Producing another element |
5. Now that you know your Day Master's Favorable and Unfavorable elements, you can begin to identify your Resource, Influence, Wealth, Companion, and Output Stars. See the Five Factors table below:
| Day Master | Wood | Metal | Water | Earth | Fire |
| Wealth | Earth | Wood | Fire | Water | Metal |
| Output | Fire | Water | Wood | Metal | Earth |
| Influence | Metal | Fire | Earth | Wood | Water |
| Resource | Water | Earth | Metal | Fire | Wood |
| Companion | Wood | Metal | Water | Earth | Fire |
Based on the table above, you can clearly see that a Wood person's wealth element is Earth. This means that this person's wealth luck is strong when the Wood element in the Luck Pillars is strong.
6. You can now look at the Luck Pillars and highlight the Pillars with Favorable elements with yellow and the Unfavorable elements with red. Look at the following Luck Pillar that belongs to a Yin Fire Day Master:
| 86 | 76 | 66 | 56 | 46 | 36 | 26 | 16 | 6 |
| Yang Fire | Yin Fire | Yang Earth | Yin Earth | Yang Metal | Yin Metal | Yang Water | Yin Water | Yang Wood |
|
Rat
Yang Water |
Ox Yin Earth |
Tiger Yang Wood |
Rabbit Yin Wood |
Dragon Yang Earth |
Snake Yin Fire |
Horse Yang Fire |
Goat Yin Earth |
Monkey Yang Metal |

Based on the information above, you can determine which periods in this Ding Fire person's life is the luckiest.
7. Finally, you can now check all the Earthly Branches and identify their relationship with each other, e.g., Harms, Punishment, Destruction, and Clash. You may use the 12 Earthly Branches Relationships Table for quick reference.
| Hour | Day | Month | Year |

You can see above that there is a clash between the Horse and the Rat. However, since they are not next to each other, the negative effect is reduced significantly. Additionally, the Rat also has a Destruction relationship with the Rooster, which means that this person may be forced to do something h/she do not want to do. Alcohol abuse (self-punishment) is also a possibility. Finally, in the Luck Pillars there's a Clash and Harm in the Year (Grandparents) pillar, a Punishment in the Month (Parents) pillar, and the Si Snake (not marked) in the Day Master (Spouse) is a Clash and Harm relationship with the Tiger in the Luck Pillar. Of course that's not all of it. If you look closely, there are more.
Remember this is only basic Bazi information and designed only to teach you how to identify and analyze certain aspects of a Bazi chart--there are more to the study of Bazi than what I have provided here.
