House Chart

Introduction

In Feng Shui practice, it is believed that a person must reside in a house or building that matches his or her personal trigram or gua number to achieve good fortune and good health. As with people, houses are divided into two types--East & West. Each type of house is assigned eight directions: four auspicious and four inauspicious directions. Knowing where the auspicious locations are in the house or building and locating the most important rooms in the house (e.g., bedroom, study, family room) in those sectors of the house, enhances the residents wealth and health.

Determining A House Trigram

A house trigram is determined by the house "sitting" direction. To find the sitting direction of the building, the following guidelines must be followed:

1. Find the brightest and busiest sector of the house or building. This is the "facing" side of the house.

2. Locate the quietest, most Yin sector of the house. This is the "sitting" side of the house.

3. Once you've determined where the "sitting" side of the house or building, ascertained the direction by using a Luo Pan or a compass. See table below for house types.
