Feng Shui and Your Home
Trying to decide on a place to live, whether you plan to rent or buy, is probably one of the most important and most difficult decision you will ever have to make.  You not only have to consider the cost, you also have to consider whether or not the house will be good for you and your family. Having the basic knowledge of finding a house that is suitable for you and your family is therefore essential. On this page, I will share with you what I learned about what to look for in a house or apartment in order to avoid money loss, illness, etc. The following are easy tips to help you:

The Exterior

The first thing you must evaluate when looking for a house or apartment is the
external environment (landform), You need to make sure there are no existing "Sha Qi" or destructive energy that can cause your family ill health or money loss.  Before you look at anything, you must first pay attention to the following:

- The Wind. If an area has strong winds, it is to your advantage to avoid it because this is considered to have bad feng shui and do not  have positive Qi.

- Support. Make sure that you have protection on both sides of the house. These protection can be another house, building, or trees.

- Water. Make sure there is drain or gutters directly in front of your main door rushing in a straight line. This, in Feng Shui, is known as "Merciless Water," and it is said to emit Sha Qi. Look for natural water nearby, e.g., river, lake, or the ocean. Make sure the water is not stagnant or dirty. Water should be flowing and clean.

- Bright Hall. Make sure there is generous space in front of  your property. No Qi can accumulate if the area is too tight or too broad. Stay away from properties that faces a firewall. For apartments, stay away from units directly facing an elevator or a stairwell.

- Roads. Look at the surrounding roads. The house should be the same level as the road or higher. Observe the surrounding buildings and make sure there are no sharp edges pointing at the property.

- Buildings. Make sure that the property is nowhere near a cemetery, hospital, church or temples, or the fire department.

- Your Life Gua. Check the directions and make sure that the property is facing in one of your auspicious directions based on your
Life Gua number. Determine whether you belong to East or West Group to find your most auspicious directions.

The Interior

If you are happy with the exterior and the surrounding area of the property, your next step is to look at the internal features of the home you plan to purchase or rent. The first thing to look at are the doors. Avoid a direct alignment of the front door with the back door. Look at the
floor plan and make sure there are no missing corners. Avoid exposed beams overhead and irregular shaped walls. The kitchen, if at all possible, should not be at the entrance of the house. It should be located towards the back of the house. Make sure that the stove is not directly facing the sink or the refrigerator and the knobs of the stove should be facing one of your auspicious directions. The master bedroom should be located in one of the breadwinner's auspicious direction and that there are no exposed beams or hanging overhead light fixtures directly over the bed. A bedroom should not overlook a road or a highway. If at all possible, the bedroom should be located in a quiet (Yin) area. Finally, the bedroom door should not open directly into full view of  the bed.
